Reflexology and Fertility
Reflexology is a science that deals with the principle that there are reflex areas in the feet and the hands that correspond to all glands, organs and parts of the body. In a session, the Reflexologist applies a unique method of pressure using the thumb and fingers on these reflex areas.
The different parts of the hands and feet are linked to zone therapy, which states that each part of the foot and/or hand is directly linked to a specific part of the body. In a nutshell, if you are looking at the feet from the bottom, the big toes would refer to the head, the midline of each foot would correspond to the spine, the base of the pinky toe would correspond to the shoulder and so on and so forth.
How does this help with fertility?
Reflexology is generally relaxing and calming. It relieves tension, improves nerve and blood supply and helps the body to achieve a state of homeostasis. A lot of women today experience fear and anxiety when it comes to conceiving. The fear of not getting pregnant, the fear of not being able to conceive, the anxiety related to things not happening before a specific age for example, the list goes on.
The first thing Reflexology can help with is bringing the body back to a state of relaxation and ease. Research shows that it may lower your blood pressure and heart rate, relieve tiredness and help you to sleep better. There is also evidence that reflexology can have a positive effect on your quality of life and improve ovulation. For men, it can help with sperm count, it can help clear toxins from the body, boost the immune system, reduce inflammation, and improve sleep which in turn reduces stress hormones.
When working on promoting fertility, the Reflexologist goes through a specific protocol to ensure organs and glands are working properly on the inside. For fertility, we would address the reproductive system (for homeostasis), all of the glands in the body (to balance the hormones), the spine (for nerve supply) and the diaphragm (for relaxation).
Reflexology for Reproductive Health Problems
Hormonal imbalances, premenstrual syndrome, blocked or damaged fallopian tubes, polycystic ovaries, adhesions, pelvic inflammatory disease, cervical problems, endometriosis, and menstrual problems, have all shown improvement from reflexology (Holt et al 2009, McCullough et al 2014 and Tiran D 2010). Within a few sessions, improved wellbeing and a sense of ease will start to surface.
Bottom line, Reflexology is time for you, away from the speed of modern-day life and a chance to offload emotionally, physically, and physiologically.
Choose a reflexologist who is well trained, qualified and insured.
